Vacation

April 29, 2008

FrontLipped will be taking some time off beginning May 1st. I am flying to B.C. for 11 days to visit family and explore the mountains.

While I’m there I’ll be brainstorming new ideas for creative content to keep FrontLipped going over the summer and I’ll hopefully be making some trip updates on my personal blog.

Gnar Wars

April 29, 2008

It might not have all that much to do with snowboarding in Canada, but this video is a must see if you like lightsabers, jedis, the force, or snowboarding.

Definite highlight is the stormtroopers talking trash at the end. Check it out at Transworld Snowboarding.

Forum or Against ‘em

April 24, 2008

Forum snowboards has released the teaser for their new team video Forum or Against ‘em. This will be Forum’s fifth foray into making a team video, following The Resistance, True Life, Video Gangs and That.

So what’s the Canadian angle here? One name…Nic Sauve.

Sauve broke onto the scene last season after he got bumped up onto Forum’s international team roster following the departure of Lauri Heiskari, Devun Walsh and Iikka Backstrom. He quickly made an impression after he locked down the opening section in Special Blend’s video project First Chair Last Call.

Check the new teaser on the Forum website or on YouTube.

Snowboard Realms

April 23, 2008

If you are a Canadian shredder and you haven’t heard about TJ Shneider’s snowboard realms, stop reading right now and go here. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

Schneider started the video blog at the start of this season as a way for kids to get a look into what happens in the life of a professional snowboarder. The response was enormous. To date, TJ’s videos have been viewed more than 160,000 times combined.

The latest edition (episode 29) includes highlights from the Big Air competition and Brave Art show at the Telus Ski & Snowboard Festival, and also gives a peek at some of the graphics TJ is working on for his signature projects.

Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival

April 23, 2008

The 2008 Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival wrapped this past weekend in Whistler, B.C. The event is a week-long festival of art, music, snowboarding, skiing and, most importantly, partying.

Seventeen-year-old ripper Sebastien Toutant, of L’Assomption, Que., took 1st place in the Big Air competition on April 12th. Norway’s Kim Andre Eliason finished 2nd and Matt Belzile, of Aylmer, Que., took 3rd.

The “If Ullr Was a Girl” competition went down from April 13th to the 15th and covered backcountry riding, halfpipe and slopestyle. The final standings saw Bev Vuilleumier end up in 1st, Spencer O’Brien finish 2nd and Jess Cumming come in 3rd.

The snowboarding wrapped up on April 19th with the Superpipe finals. On the men’s side, Ontario’s Jeff Batchelor made a good showing as he placed 2nd, behind Fumiyuki Murakami, and won the Superhit competition. Kazuumi Fujita rounded out the podium.

For the women, Shiho Nakashima (1st), Naho Mizuki (2nd) and Rana Okada (3rd) topped the podium with Alex Duckworth and Dom Vallee coming in 4th and 5th respectively.
