Sunday Cinema – Opener of Mack Dawg Production’s Pulse

June 29, 2008

I found this little gem from Mack Dawg Production’s 2002 release Pulse to share with everyone today. The opening section of the film, as well as the closing segment, were held down by some of Canada’s best riders.

This section (the opener, following the minute and a half of sponsor plugs) features JF Pelchat, Gaetan Chanut, Tadashi Fuse (I know, he’s not Canadian, but he is a member of the Wildcats so it’s all the same to me) and Kale Stephens.

Sugar Shack’s Pleasure Inc.

June 24, 2008

Don’t miss the new teaser for Sugar Shack Production’s new release, Pleasure Inc., on Snowboard Canada dot com. If you thought the Quebecois could only destroy street rails, you’ll be amazed at some of the backcountry hammers in this teaser (and you’ll also be amazed by the rail shots…but you’ve come to expect that by now, right?).

The crew features Alex Cantin, Benji Ritchie, Charles Gagnon, David Melancon, Etienne Gilbert, Gaetan Chanut, P-O Houde, Reno Belisle, Matt Dano, Max Baillargeon, Kareem El-Rafie, Hans Ahlund, Paul Gonzalez and Shin Campos.

The 8 Mile blog launches

June 23, 2008

The legend of Whistler’s infamous 8 mile house has found itself a new home…on the Internet! (where else do you think it would be in this day and age?)

Mikey Rencz, Johnny (J-Bone) Lyall and Eero Niemela have launched a blog to keep everyone up to date on happenings inside the house, outside the house and with their crew of riders. Check it out, there’s a few videos up, some rider profiles and a post about a recent trip to Cali. 8 Mile GREASY!

Sunday Cinema – Chris Dufficy in Video Gangs

June 22, 2008

Chris Dufficy has been through some serious situations in his career. Coming back from a series of concussions that almost forced him to quit snowboarding professionally is just one of the notches in the belt of his career.

Nowadays, Duff rides for Option snowboards and has been rewarded for his work with a pro model. Today we take you back to Chris’s days on the Forum team with his part from Fourstar Production’s  Video Gangs.

TWS tracks down Max Baillargeon

June 21, 2008

Transworld’s Liam Gallagher caught up with Quebec shred Max Baillargeon while Baillargeon was in Cali interning with his outerwear sponsor Billabong. Max has cut his teeth on Quebec concrete and has worked his way onto legitimate spots on the Billabong, Salomon, Etnies/ThirtyTwo, Dragon and iFound rosters.

Check Transworld Snowboarding dot com to see what Max has to say about coming up in Quebec and his interests outside of shredding. Caught up with Max Baillargeon

June 21, 2008 – Go Skateboarding Day

June 20, 2008

There’s no denying the fact that the sport of snowboarding would not be what it is today if skateboarding had never been invented. The tricks, the style, the attitude and the feeling of surfing the snow have all been heavily influenced by skating (and, of course, surfing before that).

So what better way to honour our sport’s roots than by grabbing a skateboard on June 21, shredding some concrete and joining the thousands (millions?) of other people around the world who will be celebrating Go Skateboarding Day.

Cream Your Jersey part deux

June 19, 2008

The Joytron guys had another one of their videos land its way on Transworld Snowboarding dot com. The follow up to the original Cream Your Jersey features some great sessions in Whistler’s terrain park.

The men bringing you the action are Max Honegger, Alex Beebe, Cory Gallon, Neil young, Trent Sanders, Troy Erickson and Eric Weber.

A short cameo by Leanne Pelosi, Jeff Keenan and Andrew Skelhorn adds the icing on this flick’s cake, so you should probably check it out here, or on the Joytron blog. If the cameo/commentary isn’t enough for you, I guess the awesome spring shredding and tight soundtrack will have to do the trick.

Who’s Next Wednesdays – Andrew Geeves

June 18, 2008

Andrew Geeves grew up riding the prairie hills surrounding Winnipeg, Manitoba, and gained some of his first coverage in Snowboard Canada Magazine at the age of 14. At the time, Peter Andersen described Geeves as being full of class (SBC Vol. 13 Issue 2, The Under 500 Tour).

I don’t think Geeves’ has changed much as a person in the past four years, but now instead of riding the slopes of Manitoba, he shreds pow in Whistler, films for Sandbox and gets whisked away to ride at the DC Mountain Lab (One of his sponsors along with Dinosaurs Will Die, Electric, Home Clothing and Props).

Check out Scott Birke’s interview with Geeves on Snowboard Canada dot com.

FSM: Mercedes, I’m sure you’ve been asked a thousand times but…Why the name Mercedes?
Mercedes Nicoll: My parents liked it, so do I.

FSM: No relation to the car then?
MN: Nada, but I want one!

FSM: What kind of car do you drive now?
MN: I love my Subaru. It’s a Forester, silver, named HI HO.

FSM: Why Hi Ho?
MN: Cause it’s silver silly. Like the horse. Hi Ho silver, from that cowboy show.

FSM: Aha…like the horse. Cute. So how’s your season been? Read the rest of this entry ?
