Canada~Snowboard has received a mandate from the International Ski Federation (FIS) to host the greatest number of LG Snowboard FIS World Cup events on the calendar with a total of 11 starts on Canadian soil, in addition to the six snowboard starts of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games at Cypress Mountain. Italy ranks second with eight starts while Spain follows with seven.
In addition, Canada has received the honor of hosting the first ever World Cup Slopestyle event confirming its role as a leader in the international snowboarding community.
This historic event will be held in Calgary, Alberta, fittingly at the birthplace of World Cup snowboarding in Canada. The first ever Canadian stop of the Snowboard FIS World Cup was held in Calgary in February of 1995 with the presentation of Halfpipe, Giant Slalom, Slalom and Parallel Slalom events.
